If SIBO has made travel feel too hard

Hi Reader,

It has been a little while since I landed in your inbox, and there is a good reason why...

I have just come back from the most amazing girls holiday with some of my closest friends.

We spent 2.5 weeks in Thailand, swimming, eating, laughing, relaxing, exploring and remembering what it feels like to step away from the normal day to day demands of life.

And it reminded me of something I feel really strongly about.

SIBO should not stop you from living your life.

It should not stop you from travelling.

It should not stop you from saying yes to the holiday, the girls trip, the family adventure, the long awaited honeymoon, the beach escape or the overseas experience you have been dreaming about.

But I also know that when you have SIBO, travel can bring up a lot of fear.

What will I eat?

Will everything have garlic and onion in it?

What if I get food poisoning?

What if I flare while I am away?

What if I am stuck in a hotel room while everyone else is out having fun?

What if I undo all the progress I have made?

These are real concerns, and I hear them all the time from clients.

That is why I am running a live webinar next week so I can share the exact steps I take to travel successfully and not let my gut dictate my holiday.

In this live webinar, I will be sharing the practical travel strategies I use myself and recommend to my clients so you can feel more confident travelling with SIBO, IBS or a sensitive gut.

While I will be sharing lots of examples from my recent Thailand trip, this webinar will be helpful for travel more broadly, especially if you are heading somewhere warm, tropical, food focused, overseas or a little outside your normal routine.

We will cover:

  • What to do before you go so you are not making decisions in panic mode
  • What to pack in your SIBO travel kit
  • How to choose accommodation that makes eating easier
  • How to travel with supplements, medications and safe foods
  • Food and water safety tips that still let you enjoy your holiday
  • How to manage garlic, onion, chilli and other common triggers when eating out
  • How to use Google Translate and food phrases when travelling
  • What to know about pharmacies, clinics and medical help overseas
  • What to do if you get diarrhoea, constipation, bloating, pain or nausea while away
  • How to reset if your gut flares without feeling like your holiday is ruined
  • And something I think is really important, why many people actually feel better when they travel because their day to day stressors have been removed.

This is not going to be a fear based session.

I do not want you to feel like travel is dangerous or off limits.

I want you to feel prepared.

Because when you have a plan, everything feels easier.

You can make better food choices.

You can pack what you need.

You can enjoy eating out without feeling completely out of control.

You can know when to use your own support tools and when to seek help.

And you can give yourself permission to enjoy the holiday you have been looking forward to.

Thailand is one of my favourite countries in the world. The people are lovely, the food is delicious, the weather is beautiful, and the whole trip reminded me how important it is that we still get to have beautiful life experiences while we are healing.

If you have a trip coming up, or you want to feel more confident saying yes to travel again, I would love you to join me.

Hi Reader, When I was first diagnosed with SIBO, I was put on a very restrictive diet, and after 6 months I found it extremely hard to come off it. Sadly most SIBO diets tell you what to restrict, rather than how to expand your diet. That's where The SIBO Diet Protocol is different. My goal is to support you to eat the broadest, most nourishing diet you can comfortably manage. And today, you can get The SIBO Diet Protocol, bonus cookbook with 40+ delicious recipes and supplementary...

Hi Reader, SIBO might feel like the most talked-about gut condition right now, but it's still misunderstood or not known about at all by many practitioners and patients alike. Patients are often left to self-diagnosed, they're worn out from elimination diets, and tired of being told it's "just IBS." Clinicians face overlapping presentations, they're not sure how to test (or if to test), and the constant tension between clearing the overgrowth and protecting the gut for the long term. Next...
